Charlevoix stone is a cousin to Petoskey stone. Both are fossils of corals that lived in a shallow sea during the Devonian Period, about 350 million years ago. They are commonly found along the shores of Lake Michigan. Made in Michigan by a jeweler who hunts, cuts and polishes his own stones, and then wraps them in copper wire.
